#38: Banana Split-Pea Soup

What's the common denominator?

Cracked by Vinz. Andy Warhol it is.

Warhol initiated the so called Pop Art Movement with his huge and colorful silk-screen renderings of Coke bottles and Campbell Soup cans that got very popular.

Velvet Underground & Nico released their album with the print of a banana designed by Warhol on the cover. Sometimes referred to as the Banana Album. Early copies of the album invited the owner to "Peel slowly and see". Peeling back the banana skin revealed a flesh colored banana underneath.A special machine was needed to manufacture these covers and MGM paid for costs expecting a boost in sales of the album due to the Warhol cover art. Reissued vinyl editions of the album do not feature the peel-off sticker; the original copies of the album with the peel-sticker feature are extremely rare collector's items.
